ST. LOUIS, April 21, 2014 – Ross & Baruzzini was recently awarded two Technology Awards from the St. Louis Chapter of the American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) as part of the organization’s 2013 awards program. Ross & Baruzzini received the honors for its work on the Washington University New Loop Student Living Initiative and Solar Photovoltaic System for the Saint Louis Zoo.  With the win, Ross & Baruzzini is now eligible to compete for a regional award in two divisions.

Ross & Baruzzini received a First Place Technology Award in the Category of New Educational Facility for its work on the Loop Student Living Initiative at Washington University. Ross & Baruzzini is engineering the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, IT/Security, and Communications systems for five new buildings that total roughly 275,000 ft². LEED Platinum certification is being pursued for this project, and the complex is projected to have annual energy savings of 48% compared to ASHRAE 90.1-2007 requirements.

Ross & Baruzzini received a First Place Technology Award in the Existing Public Assembly Category for the Solar Photovoltaic System for the Saint Louis Zoo. Ross & Baruzzini assisted the Zoo in procuring and installing a new 31-kilowatt solar photovoltaic grid installation, located on the roof of its Safari Gift Shop at the South Entrance. Ross & Baruzzini was responsible for the system sizing, specifications, mechanical and electrical engineering, and was the owner’s technical advisor. The system consists of 96 PV modules, producing enough electricity to save the Zoo $4,500 in projected net average annual energy costs and $111,740 total over 25 years. It also offers a source of carbon-free power generation. With this installation, solar photovoltaic is the primary power supply for the gift shop.

The ASHRAE Technology Awards program recognizes successful applications of innovative design, which incorporate ASHRAE standards for effective energy management, indoor air quality, and good mechanical design.

ST. LOUIS, April 1, 2014 – Ross & Baruzzini, Inc., a St. Louis-based consulting and engineering firm, has opened an office in Columbia, Illinois. The new office provides the personal attention of a local team with the strength of a national leader. This is the latest expansion for Ross & Baruzzini, a 157-person firm serving an impressive list of national and international clients. The office will be led by Steve Praprotnik, P.E. who joined Ross & Baruzzini in 2012 to serve as an electrical engineer.  Steve has been active in the electrical design field since 2006 serving the healthcare, higher education, and government markets.  He specializes in designing a variety of electrical systems including power distribution, emergency backup power systems, lighting and controls, and fire alarm.
