Most people walk through life looking straight ahead. Constantly moving, performing their daily activities as quickly and efficiently as possible. For us, our gaze tends to travel upward. As lighting designers, what has become part of the background for most people fascinates and intrigues us. The constant affect both natural and artificial lighting has on individuals and their health has been a hot research topic and keeps gaining interest with designers and healthcare providers alike.
Randy Kleinheider and Ben Brooks, project engineers based in Ross & Baruzzini’s St. Louis office, provided Missouri State University with their first automatic, large-scale, synthetic turf irrigation system, designed for the field hockey turf at the new Betty & Bobby Allison North Stadium.
I love this short film by Saint Louisan Charles Eames called “Powers of 10.” It demonstrates dramatically the effect of raising the number 10 to successive exponential powers. It was shot in 1968 for IBM and narrated by the Manhattan Project and MIT physicist Philip Morrison.
