Bayer, Regulatory Refrigerated Warehouse
St. Louis, Missouri
Ross & Baruzzini provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering services to convert an existing warehouse into a cold storage warehouse. The design criteria was 39 degrees with extremely low humidity. The fire protection system was replaced with a preaction system which utilized an air dryer to decrease the humidity for the dry piping system to avoid ice plugs in the pipe and a linear heat cable system for the electronic actuation. In addition, a dust collection system with an explosion control system and exhaust system was utilized to control dust in an organic material grinding room. A detailed hazard analysis was completed for the high pile storage within the facility. The Ross & Baruzzini design team worked closely with the fire marshal and the owner to provide a safe and economical solution to the cold storage warehouse.
