Ross & Baruzzini is providing Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) Engineering, Security and Low Voltage Systems Engineering Services for the design and construction of “Project Eero,” on a 97.2-acre site. The project is being delivered utilizing the design-build delivery method executed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District and with a McCarthy lead Joint Venture serving as the prime contractor with a firm fixed price contract.

The Government desires a facility that is both cutting edge and adaptable with a robust Information Technology infrastructure for new and emerging technology that includes wireless solutions. Open IT architecture is desired for the building and systems for transporting and connecting pathways. Mission-critical areas requiring continuous operations include the Data Center, VCC, and IT equipment rooms. The Data Center and two Operations Centers (MCN and MCP) are the most critical functions. The Data Center is Tier 3+, 10,000 sf with 288 racks served by 24-Megawatt service.

The facilities and systems that Ross & Baruzzini is involved with are as follows:

Main Operations Building (MOB) – approximately 712,800sf

  • Information technology (low voltage systems)
  • Peer review of the following: MEP, electronic security and SCADA Systems

Central Utilities Plant (CUP) – approximately 38,000sf

  • Information technology (low voltage systems)
  • Peer review of the following: MEP, electronic security and SCADA Systems

Visitor Control Center (VCC) – approximately 7,300sf. The VCC is envisioned as a single-story, stand-alone facility as the visitor gateway and primary access point for all visitors to the site.

  • MEP Engineering - electrical/mechanical service and distribution systems (including Trace 700 load and energy calculations to support LEED Silver and completion and revisions of LEED templates as necessary for LEED Silver certification).
  • Information technology (low voltage systems) and SCADA
  • Electronic security systems infrastructure
  • Power, lighting, and environmental control

Ross & Baruzzini’s low voltage systems designs are being provided by Registered Communications Distribution Designers (RCDDs). Low voltage systems and associated spaces include:

  • Building Entrance Room (BER)
  • Mission Critical Telecom (MCT) Room
  • Point of Presence Spaces
  • Floor Distributor Rooms (FDR)
  • Active Systems (Data Center Space)
  • Antenna Room (AR)
  • Audio Visual (AV) System Equipment Room
  • Telecommunications system
    • Backbone distribution system and horizontal distribution system including wiring, pathway systems, grounding, backboards and connector blocks, protectors for copper service entrance pairs, patch panels, fiber optic distribution panels, terminations for all fiber optic cables, outlet boxes, telephone hacks, data jacks and cover plates.
  • Local Area Network (LAN)
  • Internet Protocol Television (IPTV)
  • Digital Signage
  • Video Conferencing
  • Sound Masking
  • Intercommunications (intercom)
  • LEED V4 Silver certification and compliance with Energy Policy Act of 2005 and Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 are required.
