Ross & Baruzzini provided a retro-commissioning study and energy efficiency upgrades for McDonnell Hall on Washington University’s Hilltop Campus. Constructed in 1993, this 107,000 sf facility provides space for research, laboratories and offices for the Department of Biology, as well as a 150-seat auditorium, a 75-seat classroom and an 85-seat classroom. The scope of work included reduction in lab airflow rates from 12 air changes to 6 air changes, conversion of labs from constant to variable speed operation, control system upgrades, lighting control integration and refurbishment of existing air handlers and exhaust fan systems.

  • $85,000 in annual energy savings estimated
  • $1,500,000 total budget costs
