Sandy Hook School
In December of 2012, a lone gunman tragically slayed 20 children and 6 teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School. DVS, a division of Ross & Baruzzini, worked with the community of Newtown, Connecticut and stakeholders from the new Sandy Hook School project to develop a common-sense security approach that was sensitive to the educational mission, and could be used to protect all district-wide schools. The project involved working with the design team of the new School to implement the programs as part of the design of the school. Those programs included the school’s architecture, MEP, landscape, and lighting. Project scope included the design and construction oversight of all electronic security systems, including video surveillance, access control, alarm monitoring, duress and lockdown, and central station dispatch.
