Rail & Transit

Our experience in transit control center technology and operations, and the supporting communications networks for these systems, is extensive. We have provided consulting support for most of the rail operation control centers in North America. We have the operational knowledge and the planning, engineering, and project management experience to design and oversee the construction and commissioning of these control centers and the systems that meet our client’s near- and longer-term needs. Our collective goal is to ensure that our client’s critical operations are conducted in environments conducive to efficiently and consistently reaching the most effective outcomes.

Derek started his professional career in 1983 where he joined then-LTV where he served as Deputy PM for the company’s C-29A Facilities Checking project for the USAF, and modernizing the Norwegian Air Force’s F-5A/B fighter with HUD and avionics modeled around the F-16.  In 1994 he joinedHarris to help lead the introduction of a new bus fleet management platform, “FleetLynx”, intoCincinnati, Buffalo, Richmond, Memphis, and Charlotte.  Derek joined Macro in 1999 to assist transit agencies in Minneapolis/St. Paul and Bridgeport, CT, implement ITS systems before becoming our project manager serving the Illinois State Police helping acquire and implement a new, 200+ site, public safety 700/800 MHz trunked radio network (STARCOM), and in the same capacity later to the Maine State Police for their 70+ site VHF radio system (MSCommNet).  Today, Derek now leads our Bus Transit practice responsible for working through some of the most diverse range of technology solutions for transit agencies such as SEPTA, San Francisco MTA, WMATA, and San Diego MTS to name but a few.
